Bio-X Healthcare, a limited company, was founded on 24th February, 2000 with the support of Nivelinvest S.A., and is the initiative of the initial shareholders : Mr. Jean-Paul Perraudin, a doctor of Biochemistry and the current CEO, Mrs. Mary Gibbs, present Marketing Director and Biopole S.A., producer of enzymes and proteins of milk origin. At the end of 2003 Nivelinvest S.A., relinquished its shareholding as a result of the company’s relocation to an area beyond the territorial control of Nivelinvest. At this time Bio-X Healthcare S.A. became a branch of Biopole S.A. Bio-X Healthcare bases its know-how on the body of research carried out by Dr. Perraudin in the field of human secretions and their active substances such as lactoferrin, lactoperoxidase and lysozyme. This works spans a period of 30 years, starting at the Free University of Brussels (1970 to 1983), followed by his professional activities at Petrofina (1983 to 1990) and culminating in his position within Biopole S.A. (1990 to the present time), where he is Chairman of the Board. Bio-X Healthcare currently employs 6 people, 3 of which are on an employment basis and three are independent. Bio-X Healthcare has developed innovative oral hygiene products which it manufactures and commercialises under the trademark ‘bioxtra’. The formulation and development of the BioXtra products has been based on the Biopole patent applied for in 1999. This patent relates to the treatment of biofilms in general. Bio-X Healthcare is beneficiary of an exclusive licence on the patent for all applications within the field of oral health. Development of the Bioxtra range of products has resulted from the research work conducted by Dr. Perraudin in collaboration with various university establishments. The innovative and advanced nature of this group of products is due to the performance of its active elements which has a very close affinity with that of natural saliva and its effect on organised bacteria such as those present in biofilm form. The commercial approach adopted since the establishment of Bio-X Healthcare S.A. relies on the creation and implantation of the trademark (bioxtra) as well as on the putting in place of a global distribution network, appointing one distributor or licensee per country.
